Sediment Dynamics

Welcome to the homepage of the Sediment Dynamics Group at ETH Zurich. We are part of the Geological Institute at the Department of Earth Science (D-ERDW). Our new group was founded in October 2011 within the framework of the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNFS) Professorship of Prof. Michael Strasser.

 

We conduct research on the quantitative characterization of dynamic sedimentary and tectonic processes and related geohazards both along ocean margins and in lacustrine settings. To address these themes, we combine geophysical, sedimentological, geotechnical and numerical-modeling techniques investigating subaquatic sediment deformation and failure processes, their structures and deposits, and how they are embedded in the stratigraphic and tectonic context, as it relates to the magnitude and timing of geological forces impacting on the environment.
